Passover: a time to remember God’s redemption in your life
As I was reading through the Bible recently, there’s a story many of us are familiar with, where God shows this power over the Egyptian gods, culminating in the Passover and rescue from Egypt across the red sea.
After a miraculous rescue, water in the desert, the pillar of fire and cloud of smoke of God's presence, surprise meat in the form of quail, and mysterious daily manna with an extra portion for the Sabbath, you would think the people would be in awe of their deliverer.
And yet just 30 days into the rescue mission, we find them grumbling, complaining, and quarreling as they romanticize their 430 years in Egyptian slavery. Wishing for leeks and cucumbers, they miss the miraculous presence of the their divine salvation leading them through the wilderness.
With the favor of hindsight, it’s easy to look back with judgement at their missing the mark. We shake our heads and vow we would never be so ungrateful.
And yet, are we really much different today?
God works in a powerful way in our life, rescuing us from an abusive relationship.
He provides an unexpected connection, opening a door out of a dead-end job.
He opens the womb and brings forth the wished for child.
We celebrate with joy that our hopes have been fulfilled, yet when the next trial arrives, we’ve forgotten the answered prayers.
Our faith falters.
We doubt His goodness.
How can we shift our perspective?
To see God’s lovingkindness and deliverance?
To recognize that He has never been absent—always been present in our lives?
To trust in His provision, knowing that even in the darkest of nights, he’s always working things out for our good?
As we approach this Passover season, may we always remember the faithfulness of our Father and King.
May we pause long enough to recall the stones of remembrance in our lives. Where He moved in powerful ways.
May we not get so caught up in the moments of life that we fail to remember the way He has protected us.
Guided us.
Loved us.
And may we turn our hearts to this great King and praise Him for His glorious redemption.
