Hearing God’s voice: What are you doing here, Elijah?
Have you heard the story in the Bible where the prophet Elijah is running from Queen Jezebel, afraid for his life?
Risking everything, Elijah had mocked the prophets of Ba’al, made a stone altar drenched with water, and confidently called on God to rain down fire and reveal Himself as the true God.
And yet, this same bold, confident Elijah is cowering in fear, hiding in a cave.
God speaks from the mountain:
“What are you doing here, Elijah?”
A strong wind tore at the mountain,
An earthquake shook the land,
A blazing fire appeared,
but the LORD was not in any of these.
After the fire there was soft whisper of a voice.
“What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Have you been like Elijah?
Afraid, though you’ve seen God move mightily?
Longing for God speak directly to your situation
What if His voice is there all along?
A quiet whisper to remind you of what you have forgotten.
What if you slowed down and listened?
What is He speaking right now?
May you always have ears to hear what His Spirit is whispering to your heart.
